APRIL 15, 2020 UPDATE
The 2020 summer hockey season is officially cancelled. The Canadian government and health professionals are doing a good job of managing the pandemic and we hope everyone is doing their part to minimize the spread of the virus. We expect that arenas will be open for the winter season.
Since we have not yet incurred any expenses for the summer season, all teams will receive a full refund.
We encourage everyone to stay informed and stay safe during this time. And stay positive - things will get better. Take care.
APRIL 8, 2020 UPDATE
On March 16 the Alberta Men’s Hockey League decided to cancel the remainder of the 2019-2020 winter season. Considering the circumstances, it would not be feasible to reschedule all of the games required to finish the regular season and have playoffs within a reasonable time frame.
The start of the 2020-2021 winter season is five months away. We are following the COVID-19 situation closely and with the measures that are currently being taken, we expect arenas will reopen for the winter season. Many teams are eager to get back on the ice. These are unprecedented times and when businesses are able to operate again, it will be important for people to return to work and resume recreational activities. The Alberta Men's Hockey League will be ready to resume when it will be safe and appropriate to do so.
All 2019-2020 winter season teams will receive a credit towards team fees for the 2020-2021 season.
For those who play in the summer, the season is scheduled to start on May 4. On March 16 we were optimistic that the arenas would be open in time for the summer season but every day that goes by, we become less so. Depending on the circumstances, we may either adjust the summer season (i.e. reduce the number of games) or compress the season into a shorter time frame. If we are unable to run a summer season at all then teams will get a full refund.
We sincerely hope that everyone is doing well. Take care.
