AMHL League Information

 

The Alberta Men`s Hockey League provides a well managed and organized environment for adult recreational hockey teams.

The league strives to provide a safe playing environment by enforcing the Hockey Canada rules in addition to AMHL specific rules.  Refer to the AMHL Rules for more information.

  


 
Seasons       The AMHL has a winter season that runs from September to April and a summer season that runs from May to August. 


DivisionsThe League places teams according to their caliber and therefore, division sizes may vary.  The number of divisions depends on how many teams register and the ability of the teams.

The League will make any reasonable changes by moving teams up or down in divisions. If required, an adjustment will be made to the team's points.


Game FormatAll games are 1.5 hours with a flood every 2 periods. 

Games consist of 3 20-minute running time periods.

There will be 30 Regular Season Games, starting the second week of September and ending in April.

Summer:

There will be 18 regular season games, starting the first week of May.


PlayoffsApproximately two-thirds of the teams will advance to playoffs. Example:

All playoff series are "Best of Three".


Location of Arenas

All arenas are within the Edmonton city limits.  Both north and south side locations are used.  All rinks are regulation size.


Days of PlayWinter:
The League operates 7 days per week in the evenings on weekdays and throughout the day on weekends.

Summer:
In summer the league operates in the evenings from Monday to Friday in May and June and Monday to Thursday in July and August.  No games are scheduled on weekends during the summer.


DepositsDuring registration process for the winter and summer seasons, a deposit of $1000 is required to hold the spot for your team.  The deposit will be applied to the team fees.


Team FeesFor current season fees, please contact league administration.


Fees Include

Regular season and playoff ice.

Qualified referees and timekeepers.  Two referees and one timekeeper are scheduled for each game.

Organized hockey schedule.


Timely posting of regular season and playoff statistics on the AMHL website.


Weekly posting of regular season and playoff statistics at Argyll and KC Twin arenas.  

Team trophies for divisional winners.


Trophies for Lowest Goals Against Average and Most Points for each division.


 RefundsLeague Administration sets the team season fees.  Each Team Representative is responsible for collecting fees from the players and submitting the team fees to League Administration.  The League does not accept payment of fees from individual players.  Any arrangements regarding player refunds are the responsibility of the Team Representative.

Payments, including deposits, submitted to League Administration on behalf of a Team are generally non-refundable.  However, refunds may be given only under special circumstances which are subject to the discretion of League Administration on a case by case basis.


InsuranceTeam fees include player liability and accident insurance through CARHA.


Player Eligibility        Players must be at least 18 years of age before the start of the season. This applies to both Summer and Winter seasons.
